Membership reactivation

Now that restrictions have eased across Victoria and centre hours and programs are closer to normal, we will be reactivating all memberships* on Thursday 11 February 2021.
 
*Childcare direct debit memberships will not be reactivated. In lieu of the childcare service reopening at this time, the centre will be adding a range of child friendly group fitness classes operated in the stadium, with the support of one of our childcare team. Details to be provided later in January.
   
Frequently asked questions

  • When will my membership be reactivated?

    Your membership will be reactivated on Thursday 11 February 2021. If you have chosen to reactivate your membership prior to this date, your fortnightly debit will continue as usual.

    If you have not, your first debit may be slightly different from your normal fortnightly fee. This could be due to one or more of the following reasons:

    • Additional credit applied from your last debit due to centre closure;
    • Unpaid fees from your last direct debit;
    • or Pro-rata fees incurred from your activation date to the first returned debit.

    After your first direct debit, you will be charged at the same amount and on the same fortnightly or monthly schedule as before suspension.

    If you have a term membership, your membership will resume from the time it was suspended. For instance, if you bought a three-month membership and it was suspended after one month when the centre closed, you will have another two months from Thursday 11 February 2021.

  • When will childcare return to normal operation?

    During the closure of services due to COVID-19, the YMCA has had to review the operation of the childcare service in line with the financial viability of this service. The impact of COVID-19 has seen a significant drop in return members and it will be some time before we can reactivate this service without incurring significant losses. As such, childcare direct debit memberships will not be reactivated.

    In lieu of the childcare service reopening at this time, the centre will be adding a range of child friendly group fitness classes operated in the stadium and we welcome you to attend with your child or children. The YMCA will provide one of our friendly childcare team to assist during the class, and you will be close enough to attend to your child if needed.

    Class options may include: fitness, cardio, boxing (if permitted), pilates, core and strength. Class details will be provided later in January.

  • If I reactivate my membership, will my fees be the same?

    Yes, there are still restrictions in place at the centre.

    COVID-19 still poses a serious health threat to the community and we will be taking all of the precautionary steps necessary to keep you and our staff safe.

  • Do I still need to book a session to visit the centre?

    The centre still requires you to book for group fitness, sauna and squash sessions via our website.

    All other members will need to log in using their YMCA membership card.

    This ensures that we can contact trace if there is a confirmed case at our centre.

  • Will my fees be the same?
    Yes, your fees will remain the same.

Please note that bookings will still be required for group fitness, sauna, squash and basketball court access.

Summer operating hours
We will be extending our hours over the summer period. Our new operating hours will be: 

  • Monday to Friday: 6am – 8pm
  • Saturday: 7am – 2pm
  • Sunday: 9am – 2pm 

Cowes pool unable to open this summer

Over recent years, Bass Coast Shire Council, in partnership with the YMCA, have opened the Cowes Primary School’s swimming pool over the summer holiday period for public use. Given the expectations for the safe management of swimming facilities due to COVID-19 and the availability of qualified swimming staff, the swimming pool will not be opened this year.

Contact tracing

The Victorian Government requires us to be able to trace everyone who attends our facility. Specifically, we must record your name, contact number and time of attendance. To ensure your information is stored and managed correctly, we're using the Victorian Government contact tracing system (the Service Victoria app).

All walk-ins of the facility will be required to check in as follows:

How to check-in

  1. Download and open the Service Victoria app
    a. Apple Devices
    b. Android Devices
  2. Scan the QR code (displayed at the entrance of the area) and follow the prompts on your phone to check-in before you enter.
  3. Show the 'Checked-in' screen with green tick to staff as you enter our facility.

Please ensure you complete each step when entering the facility. Those unable to access a device for contact tracing will need to complete a manual log-in with a member of staff at reception.

  • Contract tracing

    To help keep our community safe, we require all visitors to sign in with a unique QR code when visiting our centre. To receive your unique code via email, all you need to do is fill out a visitor registration form. Once you have received your code, you will be able to use it to sign in every time you visit our centre.

    How to get your unique QR code:

    1. Click here to fill out the visitor registration form.

    2. Include any additional visitors, such as minors who are attending the centre with you. Minors who attend the centre alone will need to fill out a separate visitor registration form.

    3. Ensure all your details are correct – particularly your email address.

    4. Check the confirmation box at the end of the form and select the ‘next’ button.

    Participants must attend with their membership card and scan in at reception when entering.

  • COVID-safe training for our staff

    All staff have completed the Department of Health COVID-safe training, as well as additional training provided by YMCA Victoria to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge to keep you safe. We have also provided additional training for specific roles to ensure all programs operate safely with social distancing requirements in place.

  • Wearing a face mask in centre
    The current government restrictions no longer require Victorians to wear a fitted face mask that covers the nose and mouth when they leave their home. To ensure we align to all government requirements, we ask that all visitors and patrons continue to carry a face mask with them at all times when inside our centre. Although face masks are no longer mandatory for members of the public in our facilities - they are recommended by the government where social distancing can not be maintained. This could include while moving about the centre, waiting at the front desk or on pool deck during swimming lessons.
     
    If you are unsure of when you should wear a mask, please ask one of our friendly staff who will be able to provide you with the correct guidance.

  • Booking online

    To ensure we are following the government’s health guidelines, there will be a restricted number of people allowed within a space at any given time. So no one misses out, we have set up an online booking system where you can select a session time that suits you and pay immediately to secure your place. You can also book and pay over the phone by calling us on 1300 760 379. Note: you will be directed to our new Customer Call Centre to assist you with your booking enquiry. 

  • Signage and instructions

    Once you are inside the centre, you will see signage and instructions on how staff and visitors can be COVID-safe. Hygiene signage and floor, seat and bench stickers will be displayed throughout the facility to help everyone with physical distancing requirements.

  • Social distancing in centre
    A safe distance of 1.5 metres between people will be required throughout the centre and programs. All spaces within the centre have been measured and 8 metres squared occupancy restrictions per space will be enforced. Staff and visitors will be counted as they enter and exit spaces, and some seats and equipment have been removed to ensure social distancing is possible.

    Please remember that we must all play our part in helping stop the spread of COVID-19. If a visitor does not follow our COVID-safe practices, including social distancing requirements, they may politely be asked to leave the facility by a staff member.

     
  • Hygiene and cleaning
    When you arrive at the facility, the first thing you will notice is hand sanitiser at all entry and exit points, with the expectation that everyone (staff and visitors) sanitise their hands before entering. Hand sanitiser will be available throughout the centre and in bathrooms.  

    The entire facility will be cleaned every 24 hours and high touch points, such as doors, toilets and gym equipment, will be cleaned regularly throughout the day. Staff will also be wiping down gym equipment regularly and antibacterial wipes will be available for visitors to use before and after using equipment.
  • Our 8-step plan for a confirmed case
    Our staff have been trained to ensure that if there is a confirmed case at the centre, they have the tools and resources they need to close down safely. All visitors will have to sign in at reception when they attend their session, which allows us to contact trace those people who were at the centre. There will also be a contamination clean prior to reopening.  

    Please do not visit the centre if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, tiredness, cold, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath or headache. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, please seek medical attention and be checked for COVID-19 at one of the testing stations across the state.
